Description/Interesting Notes:
An old time example of native silver from Hungary!!! This specimen is comprised almost entirely of native silver!!! The
native silver is present as a dense tangle of intergrown wires with a few tiny crystals of gem-clear barite in association!!!
Upon close inspection, the darkly colored material appears to be the remnants of significantly
altered polybasite crystals (and perhaps other related Ag-species)!!! The native silver wires have a tin-white color with accents of
darker "antique" patina!!! Upon close examination, the barite crystals are very sharp, glassy, and gem clear with a pale yellow color!!!
This specimen retains an old label from Frank H. Lattin (1861-1937) that notes the locality to be Hungary!!! Frank Lattin was
dynamic person - in addition to being a mineral and natural history dealer he was also a physician and surgeon, as well as a
publisher, fruit farmer, and member of the New York state assembly (it is well worth researching his bio)!!!
Simply a fantastic, old time native silver from Hungary!!! This specimen likely dates to the 19th century!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 15th!!!
