Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of native silver from this classic locality!!! While a significant amount of silver was produced in Butte,
examples of native silver were quite rare!!! This specimen hosts numerous areas of densely tangled
wires of native silver that have a unique golden patina!!! The matrix is comprised of pyrite, sphalerite, and quartz!!! Upon
close inspection one can see numerous tiny quartz crystals in association, as well as scattered pyrite crystals!!! It is difficult to
appreciate in the pics, but the silver has a more intense golden patina and there is a significant amount of native silver
present at the base of the wires as very fine, darkly colored masses that hosts areas of material that actually looks like
gold (electrum) under close inspection with a loupe or scope!!! It is difficult to get a feel for the matrix, however in person
it is very typical Butte matrix!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd!!!
