Description/Interesting Notes:
A very rare, old time example of native silver from NORTH CAROLINA!!! These old Silver Hill Mine native silver specimens date to the mid 1800's and are
extraordinarily rare indeed!!! This specimen hosts numerous areas of bright, tin white silver as well as silver that is coated with black sulphides!!!
The native silver is present as sheet-like crystals that scattered about the exposed seams on the specimen's surface!!! In person, one can see that there are
flat, thin crystals of darkly colored sphalerite that also occupy the same planes as the native silver!!! This specimen was covered in decades of dust when we first acquired it and, upon giving it a gentle
rinse we were surprised to see all the brilliant spots of native silver!!! There are several thin veins where one can see that more silver could be revealed if one so desired!!!
It is difficult to appreciate in the pics, but in person the areas of native silver stand out dramatically!!! This specimen retains an old
label from the Michigan College of Mines (Seaman Museum) and has affixed catalogue numbers as well!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
