An absolutely magnificent example of acanthite and native silver from Canada!!! This specimen consists of a dense plate of
crystalline acanthite that hosts several tangles of native silver wires set on a small amount of
matrix!!! This is a really magnificent example of acanthite for the locality - this is not massive acanthite
but rather a very complex, contiguous network of crystalline acanthite!!! The native silver is present as
dense tangles of native silver wires tucked among the acanthite crystals!!! The native silver wires have a varied
patina that ranges from dark gray to tin-white!!! This specimen is really very impressive in person - the pics don't even
come close to doing it justice!!!
This specimen retains a label that dates it to 1908 -
just one year after this historic (and long-since closed) opened!!! This specimen is from the Canadian suite of the Jenkins Collection and retains its original
Jenkins personal collection label as well as an old label from the collection of John Durkos!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must
be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
