Description/Interesting Notes:
An old time example of native silver from this seldom referenced Mexican locality!!! This specimen hosts a rich showing of
native silver on a blocky, stark white calcite matrix!!! The native silver is present as fine, sharp spinel twin crystals as well as
arborescent crystals and dense, almost spongiform masses intimately associated with calcite!!! Upon close inspection the
spinel twin crystals exhibit a unique and characteristic habit with razor-sharp faces and brilliant metallic luster!!! The
crystallization is simply incredible when viewed with a loupe or scope!!! There is much more crystallization than can be appreciated in the pics!!!
Usually, the great majority of native silver specimens from Mexico have been etched out of calcite matrix - however this specimen is completely
natural, with a naturally exposed group of native silver crystals!!! Upon close inspection one can see that there are
numerous tiny scalenohedral calcite crystals present around and on the most prominent group of native silver crystals!!! Rare old
time material!!! This specimen is from the collection of Florence Mecke and retains its original affixed catalogue number as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY APRIL 19th!!!
