Description/Interesting Notes:
A terrific, old time example of native silver from Colorado!!! Examples of native silver from Gunnison County are quite scarce on today's market!!! This
old time Colorado specimen consists of clusters of calcite rhombs in association with darkly colored masses of altered silver-bearing sulfides in association with
numerous small wires of native silver scattered throughout!!! Upon close examination with a loupe or a scope
one can see small crystals of acanthite and other silver-bearing species (polybasite) in association!!! The calcite crystals are surprisingly lustrous as well!!!
The bottom of the specimen hosts some gray colored chlorargyrite that exhibits classic "horn silver" appearance!!! This specimen retains an old label from the Durkos collection and
an old handwritten label as well!!! There is notation on the reverse of one of the labels that mentions the specimen came through Dick Hauck from the collection of the late Beatrice (? the last name is missing)!!!
This specimen was ultimately acquired by us from the Bob Jenkins collection!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
