Native Silver with Galena Aspen, Aspen District, Pitkin Co., Colorado 3.8cm x 2.87cm x 2.56cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A unique, old time example of native silver from Colorado!!! This specimen hosts a very rich showing of native silver in intimate association with galena!!! In addition to the native silver and galena there is a significant amount of acanthite and some sphalerite!!! In person, it almost appears as though some crystals of galena have been replaced by native silver and acanthite!!! Upon close inspection, one can see that there are areas of solid silver and acanthite!!! The matrix is white barite, which is quite characteristic for the locality!!! This is a very rich specimen and more barite could easily be removed to show more of these dense sulfide-mix & native silver crystals!!! This is a very unusual old time Aspen silver indeed!!!
