Description/Interesting Notes:
A magnificent, old time example of smithsonite and calcite from this historic locale!!! These classic
specimens date to the 19th century (the locality was abandoned in 1884)!!! This specimen consists of a
broad vug lined with characteristic tan colored smithsonite rhombs in aesthetic association with
glowing, golden crystals of calcite!!! The smithsonite crystals exhibit lustrous, translucent crystals
with sharp rhombehedral form and the calcite crystals show striking, starbursts of complex, pointy crystals!!!
Upon close inspection the calcite crystals show groups that are vaguely reminiscent of cumengeite sixlings - with
elongated pyramidal crystals jutting out in x,y, and z axes!!! The specimen
is quite showy in person and is in fantastic condition all around!!! This speicmen has an old
museum catalogue number affixed as well!!! The calcite crystals also show a glowing yellow-green fluorescence
under SW UV as well!!! These historic specimens are rarely so aesthetic!!! Simply a fantastic example of
this classic material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
