Description/Interesting Notes:
A classic, old time example of cadmian smithsonite from Arkansas!!! The great majority of cadmian smithsonite specimens from this locality are pseudomorphs
after dolomite, with actual examples of primary smithsonite being rather scarce in comparison!!! These old time examples of botryoidal cadmian smithsonite are sometimes
referred to as "turkey fat" smithsonite!!! This specimen consists of rich yellow botryoidal smithsonite on a matrix of sphalerite and chert!!! In person the coloration of the
smithsonite has a more pronounced two-tone appearance, with the under layer having a rather vivid lemon yellow color and the outer layer having a
more butterscotch color!!! The botryoidal crystals have significant, velvety luster as well!!! This old time material likely dates to the late 19th century!!! This specimen is from the collection of Larry Krause and
retains his label as well!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
