A very rare, old time example of smithsonite after galena from the Beer Cellar mine!!! This specimen consists of a group of octahedral
galena crystals that have been replaced by botryoidal smithsonite!!! The smithsonite is slightly translucent and is remarkably lustrous!!!
Curiously, there is a thin layer of galena sandwiched between an earlier pseudomorph of smithsonite after galena!!! The result of such
subsequent layering has given the octahedral crystal a curious, slightly concave appearance and more pronounced edges!!! The pics
hardly capture just how handsome this old time rarity is in person!!! A very curious, and classy, historic beauty!!! This specimen
retains an old label from William Parrish as well as an old label from the Sunshine Acres School (a very "unique" fully
accredited private school - circa 1939, it was part of the nation's first Nudist colony)!!!
