Smoky Quartz with Cleavelandite, Spessartine Garnet, & Schorl Tourmaline Little Three Mine, Ramona, Ramona District, San Diego Co., California 7.35cm x 6.2cm x 5.24cm

Description/Interesting Notes: A classic example of smoky quartz from California!!! This specimen consists of a group of smoky quartz crystals on a matrix of light blue albite in association with bright orange spessartine garnet and black schorl tourmaline!!! The quartz crystals are gemmy and well formed!!! The albite is a handsome light blue color that is more pronounced than the pics show!!! There are numerous partial gem-clear orange spessartine garnets scattered about the periphery although there is a complete single crystal tucked amoungst the smoky quartz crystals!!! The black schorl tourmaline crystals can be seen on the bottom of the specimen!!! The specimen exhibits a curious natural stress-fracturing that seems frozen in place - you can see this clearly through the main quartz crystal and it runs through the specimen as well!!! There are numerous tiny, translucent, rounded submillimeter crystals dusting the quartz crystals and high-relief areas of the albite crystals - perhaps they are apatite, as the old label mentions apatite but I could find no large crystals of it present!!!
