Description/Interesting Notes:
An absolutely EXTRAORDINARY example of greenockite from Pennsylvania!!! Not only is this an AMAZING greenockite specimen, it is also
a very impressive example of sphalerite for the locality as well!!! This specimen consists of a cluster of large, complex, gemmy yellowish
sphalerite crystals that host an exceptional showing of greenockite consisting of eye-visible reddish orange crystals and
bright yellow crusts!!! The sphalerite crystals are on a matrix of quartz crystals with some scattered crystals of galena in association as well!!!
Areas of the specimen show significant overgrowth of reddish-orange greenockite crystals and, upon close inpsection with a loupe
or a scope one can see well formed, individual crystals as well!!! The sphalerite
crystals show significant areas of gem clarity with rich yellowish color!!! The sphalerite crystals have taken on a
unique hue due in part to the greenockite association as well!!! This is a VERY significant
specimen for the locality - and a very fine example of the species as well!!! This specimen is simply
incredible in person!!! You do not want to miss out on this killer old timer!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired
the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting
minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer collection this specimen was
originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY DECEMBER 13th!!!
