Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare, old time example of staurolite from New York City!!! Mineral specimens from New York City are quite rare and
highly sought after by collectors!!! This specimen hosts numerous reddish-brown crystals of staurolite embedded
in a matrix of characteristic Manhattan schist!!! The staurolite crystals exhibit some highly complex and modified forms
as a result of their close contact with the schist!!! The staurolite crystals have lustrous, sharply defined faces and
areas of marked translucence as well!!! Some crystals show characteristic interpenetration twinning as well!!!
The crystals range in size up to 1.8cm!!! The crystals are much more prominent than they appear in the pics (the
schist matrix "looks" much smoother in person) and the
specimen is actually rather handsome compared to the pictures!!! This is OLD material that likely dates to the 19th century!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the
collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and
there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!! Prior to the Nikischer
collection this specimen was originally from the collection of Florence Mecke (acquired from the late 1930's until the 1970's)!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
