Description/Interesting Notes:
A rich, old time example of stephanite from Nevada!!! This specimen comes from a significant, yet lesser known, 19th century silver-boom
district!!! The initial finds of silver were made in 1866 and production began in 1871!!! In short order the area grew into a
bustling town - the town of Jefferson - complete with hotels, restaurants, offices, and just about everything else!!! By 1881 however all of the
mines were exhausted and the town of Jefferson was abandoned!!! This historic, 19th century specimen hosts a large, contiguous mass of
solid stephanite on a thin plate of matrix!!! The massive stephanite has dark black color with marked, slightly metallic luster!!!
The old label notes that there is some pyrargyrite in association, however the great majority of the specimen seems to be comprised of
stephanite!!!
This specimen retains an old label from the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum!!! Rare old time material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED SATURDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 5-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY NOVEMBER 3rd!!!
