A superb and unusual example of stolzite from California!!! These specimens were initially thought to
be scheelite crystals and were identified as such for decades!!! Although they were
found in the late 1950's and it wasn't until relatively recently that they were
determined to be some of the worlds finest stolzites!!! Today these specimens are scarce
and seldom seen on the market!!! We recently acquired an old collection that obtained a small cache of these
incredible specimens, however this specimen is unique for several reasons - first, it is the largest
single crystal by far and second, it hosts a SECOND generation of stolzite crystals on its surfaces!!! On its faces and the
nooks and crannies of its slightly altered surfaces are numerous tiny tan colored stolzite crystals!!! These stolzite
crystals exhibit a more tabular habit than octahedral!!! In addition to the second generation of stolzite crystals, there are some
small colorless fluorite crystals present in the large crevices and as tiny water-clear crystals on one face!!! This second generation of
stolzite crystals is quite unusual indeed - this specimen is simply fascinating under magnification!!! Simply a magnificent
example of this rare species from California!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!!
