Stolzite Pseudomorph after Scheelite
Thompson Shaft, Darwin Mine, Darwin District, Inyo Co., California
1.1" x .88" x .82"
2.9cm x 2.2cm x 2.1cm
Ex. Robert D. Roots - Circa 1937
Description/Interesting Notes:
A classic example of stolzite after scheelite from Darwin!!! This specimen consists of a
complex cluster of several intergrown octahedral crystals of stolzite after scheelite!!! These old
time specimens were for many years thought to simply be scheelite crystals - however work recently
done at the Mackay School of Mines of the University of Nevada has shown that they are actually
stolzite pseudomorphs after scheelite!!! This makes them some of the finest stolzite crystals out
there!!! This specimen was field collected by Robert Roots who was an early pioneer of the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show!!!
