Sugilite Wessels Mine, Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa 5.86cm x 3.34cm x 1.88cm

Description/Interesting Notes: An absolutely incredible example of crystalline sugilite from South Africa!!! Sugilite is almost always seen as massive material - and is relatively rare even as massive material!!! Examples of even microcrystalline sugilite are extremely scarce and always highly sought after!!! However this extraordinary specimen hosts sharp, GEMMY crystals of sugilite to over 1.25cm!!! Let me start by saying that the color is INCREDIBLE in person - the camera simply cannot pick up the intense, electric purple color that it is in person!!! The color of these gemmy crystals is unlike anything else in the mineral kingdom!!! This specimen hosts numerous crystals scattered throughout the specimen and there is a lot more to be seen than the pictures imply!!! The matrix itself is comprised of somewhat fibrous, microcrystalline sugilite that has a handsome light purple color (more vibrant than the pictures)!!! There is a significant area of crystalline sugilite that is also present as a contiguous group of oriented, fibrous crystals (from the right perspective it almost looks like a very broad single crystal that is just a millimeter thick top to bottom) that has a lively velveteen sheen in person!!! This is an extraordinary example of the species!!! Sugilite specimens like this are extremely scarce and simply incredible in person!!! Don't miss out on this rare and valuable beauty!!!
