A terrific example of tanzanite from this famous locality!!! This specimen consists of a sharply twinned crystal that somewhat resembles a
heart with a second smaller crystal in association!!! The crystal has razor-sharp faces and bright glassy luster!!! The crystal exhibits
the pronounced pleochroism characteristic of the species!!! When looking down the c-axis the crystal exhibits a definite reddish color and the
prism faces exhibit lively purple color from the front and back and blue color from the sides!!! This specimen has not been
heat treated as so many tanzanite specimens have - as evidenced by the reddish colored c-axis, a trait that heat treated specimens lose!!!
This specimen is actually doubly terminated as well, with the bottom consisting of numerous
small and complex faces (in addition, the tip of the bottom termination actually begins to show a bit of bicoloration to yellow)!!! The pics
hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
