Tetradymite with Quartz Baita Mining District (Baita Bihor; Rézbánya), Nucet, Bihor Co., Romania 4cm x 3cm x 2.26cm Ex. Schortmann's

Description/Interesting Notes: A rare, old time example of this rare bismuth telluride from Romania!!! This specimen consists of a quartz matrix that hosts a significant showing of brilliantly metallic tetradymite!!! The surfaces of the quartz matrix under and around the tetradymite are complexly etched or contacted!!! A significant portion of these complex cavities are occupied by bright, metallic tetradymite!!! While much of the material is somewhat massive, upon close examination, one can see some characterisitic hexagonal plate-like crystals of tetradymite as well!!! There is a considerable amount of tetradymite present to be certain, however while the label only mentions tetradymite it appears there may be other unidentified metallic species in association as well!!! This is a fantastic, old time example of this rare species indeed!!! This specimen retains an old Schortmann's label that lists the locality as still being in Hungary!!!
