Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, old time example of thaumasite and hematite with andradite from Langban!!! This specimen consists of a combination of
white thaumasite crystals, metallic "cubic" hematite, brownish andradite garnet, and at least two other unidentified species!!! The
thaumasite is present as bright white masses of intergrown crystals with tiny crystals jutting out into small voids!!! Upon close examination, its crystalline
nature is clearly visible!!! In addition to the bright white crystals of thaumasite, there are numerous areas of somewhat fibrous, off-white
radiating sprays of crystals distributed throughout the specimen!!! The hematite
is present as a large, stepped, cubic-looking crystal!!! The only other locality where "cubic" (cubic-parting) hematite is known is
Franklin, New Jersey!!! This is one of the only examples of this unusual material I have ever seen from Langban!!! The hematite has somewhat
metallic luster and there are areas of material that show an intense bluish iridescence as well!!! The andradite is relatively massive, however
there are areas of significant crystallization as well!!! In addition to the andradite, there are several dark green
crystals of what appears to be diopside (or similar appearing species)!!! The thaumasite crystals fluoresce whitish blue and the
off-white unidentified crystals fluoresce orange under SW UV!!! Simply a fantastic Langban combo!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must
be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
