Description/Interesting Notes:
An incredible example of this rare and sought after species from Norway!!! Thortveitite is a very rare silicate
of scandium - out of the four thousand plus mineral species there are just a few that contain scandium - and they are
all very rare indeed!!! This specimen hosts several crystals of thortveitite in association with
darkly colored crystals of fergusonite as well as other unidentified species (xenotime, monazite?)!!!
The thortveitite crystals have a slightly greenish brown color, marked luster, and range in size to 2.3cm!!! There
are several partial, darkly colored fergusonite crystals scattered about and, upon close inspection there are
other unidentified crystalline species that have colors similar to the feldspar matrix (although they are much more
easily discerned in person)!!! Rare old time material!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
This specimen is from the collection of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer
and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
