A fantastic, old time example of elbaite tourmaline from the type locality in Elba, Italy!!! This specimen consists of a combination of
orthoclase, albite, and quartz crystals that serve as a matrix for a bright, glassy, pristine crystal of gem-clear elabaite tourmaline!!! The
crystal has a lively green color at its base and then grades to colorless toward the termination!!! This rare colorless variety of tourmaline
is known as achroite!!! The crystal is complete, undamaged, and prominently perched on the matrix - jutting out of a sharp quartz crystal!!! There
are several other partial crystals visible in other areas of the specimen as well!!! This specimen is from an old German collection and retains
its original label!!! The label also notes on the reverse that the specimen had been acquired in trade from "Bergakademie Freiberg" in 1980!!! The
pics hardly do it justice!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
