Description/Interesting Notes:
A unique example of tourmaline from a VERY rare locale - Mauritania!!! This is a group of three specimens - one on matrix
with albite and lepidolite and two individual crystal sections (these actually fit together)!!! I must start by saying that these
pictures do not come close to capturing the color which is very unique indeed!!! The crystals have a very attractive
blue green color that is unlike that seen from any other locale (it has an almost Paraiba-like color)!!! Some of the crystals
show a core of pink tourmaline and slight, partial alteration to purple lepidolite!!! The crystal segments were fractured in situ and
later naturally "cemented" together by quartz (some of which has a curious, almost granular like appearance)!!! In
person this material is quite characteristic indeed!!! Tourmaline specimens from this locale are virtually non-existent!!! This
specimen retains an old label from the Bureau de Recherches Geologiques et Minieres (BRGM) in France (the French equivalent to the
U.S. Bureau of Mines) as well!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection of
Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen
PERSONAL collection of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming
days and weeks!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
