Description/Interesting Notes: A unique and rare example of true achroite tourmaline from New York!!! Tourmaline var. achroite is a rare, colorless variety of tourmaline however what makes this specimen truly unusual is that it has the appearance of an uvite tourmaline!!! I have never seen an achroite tourmaline from this locality before and all those I have seen from other localities were elbaite-type tourmalines (the classic prismatic tourmaline)!!! This specimen consists of a complexly modified crystal of achroite in association with a small amount of matrix and a second, smaller conjoined achroite crystal!!! The crystal has some highly complex features and irregular surfaces combined with razor-sharp, brilliantly lustrous faces!!! The crystal has marked clarity that is much more significant than the pics show!!! This specimen displays quite handsomely in person!!! This specimen is from the personal collection of Sal Avella!!! This specimen also fluoresces yellow under SW UV!!! Very rare old time material!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
