Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare example of this unusual form of emerald from Colombia!!! This specimen was part of a small group of such specimens that
we recently acquired from the collection of Tony Nikischer and originally came from the collection of
Florence Mecke!!! This specimen consists of a single complex
emerald crystal that exhibits the rare and curious "trapiche" habit!!! "Trapiche" emeralds are so named because they resemble
the spoked wheels of the same name (trapiche in Spanish) that are used to crush sugar cane!!!
This specimen has all six "spokes" and shows rich emerald green color with gemmy clarity!!!
What makes this specimen so special is that the six "spokes" or lobes are thick, gemmy, and
fused together - which gives the specimen lapidary value as well!!! This specimen has dramatic fiber-optic like
properties and shows dramatic, glowing emerald green color when there is even moderate light behind the specimen!!! This specimen is
WAY better than the pics show - in person it is quite striking indeed!!! Simply a fantastic example of this very rare emerald habit!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
