Description/Interesting Notes:
A fantastic, old time example of this rare variety of uraninite from Norway!!! Cleveite is actually a rare earth element bearing variety of uraninite that contains a
significant amount of the REEs!!! According to mindat: "The first portions of terrestrial Helium (He) were obtained
during Cleveite dissolution in sulfuric acid (Ramsey 23 March of 1895 - 27 years later of discovery of He on the Sun).
First described by Nordenskiöld (1878) from the Garta feldspar quarry, Arendal, Aust-Agder, Norway." This specimen hosts a sharp 1cm+ crystal prominently perched on
matrix!!! The crystal exhibits a somewhat complex cubic habit that appears slightly scewed or rotated!!! The
specimen is in terrific condition and displays fantastically!!! This specimen retains its original label and catalogue number from the Cilen collection, in addition to other unattributed affixed labels!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
