Description/Interesting Notes:
An exceptional, old time example of uraninite from Pennsylvania!!! This specimen consists of a hefty, impressive example of
massive uraninite with numerous colorful related species in intimate association!!! The uraninite is present as a
conspicuous, darkly colored oblong circle surrounded by green, yellow, and blue mineralization!!! The specimen has been cut
and polished on two sides to reveal just how rich and significant this specimen is!!! The specimen is surprisingly heavy and
solid!!! The specimen appears to have a significant amount of silica present and, upon close inspection with a loupe or a scope there are
some very exciting things to be seen!!! This would likely be a very exciting candidate for further analysis, as many of the associated species look
somewhat unusual (I do not believe we are looking at malachite and azurite here... and these are not soluble alteration products either!)!!!
The uraninite is dense and black in areas, although there are some areas where it is slightly diffuse and appears to have some
golden metallic material (possibly pyrite) in intimate association!!! This locality is no longer accessible and specimens are
quite scarce indeed!!! Even with out the exciting associations, this is an incredible uraninite!!! This specimen came from the
collection of Dr. Eugene B. Gross who worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in the late 1950 and early 1960's!!! It was
part of his responsibility to build a collection of specimens relevant to the United States' Atomic Energy interests!!! During
his tenure Gross built an impressive collection of significant and historic specimens!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!! STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 22nd!!!
