Vivianite pseudomorph after Belemnite Mullica Hill, Gloucester Co., New Jersey

Description/Interesting Notes:An incredible example of vivianite from New Jersey!!! The vivianite specimens from this locality are almost always encountered as replacements after gastropods, particularly belemnites - however, they are almost NEVER encountered as complete as this!!! In most circumstances only cross-sections of belemnites are seen - however, this specimen consists of an entire belemnite, top to bottom!!! Furthermore, most specimens are exceedingly fragile and tend to crumble apart, however this specimen is literally as hard and as stable as concrete (it is totally clean, with not a speck of soluble mud present!)!!! The specimen is on a small portion of matrix and both the specimen and the matrix are completely cemented by phosphates!!! The vivianite crystals are exposed at the base of the specimen and are comprised of lustrous, darkly colored intergrown crystals!!! There is also some minor rockbridgeite in association on the edges of some of the vivianite!!! In addition, there are some tan colored crystals visible on the periphery of the specimen of unknown identity!!! This is a truly exceptional specimen from Mullica Hill!!!
