Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare and unusual example of wilkeite from Portugal!!! This is a very unusual specimen that shows distict differences
from the apatite specimens from this locality!!! Although it is not an adequately described species according to the IMA,
Wilkeite was described by Fleischer (1983) as "a siliceous, sulphatian Apatite, or a phosphatian Fluorellestadite"!!!
This unusual specimen retains a note from Tony stating that it is "very likely wilkeite" - (obviously much
further work would need to be done to establish wilkeite as a potential new species and to determine this specimen's exact status)!!! One
thing is certain - it is rare and unusual material indeed!!! This specimen consists of a showy group of complex, wheat-sheaf like
crystals of "wilkeite"!!! The crystals are in fantastic condition and have glassy luster and marked translucence!!! The
crystals are doubly terminated and have curious, somewhat spikey terminations!!! There was only a small amount of
this material recovered (perhaps just a handful of specimens) and specimens are quite scarce indeed!!! You don't
want to miss out on this unusual and unique specimen (who knows perhaps it is even an unrecognized new species?!)!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! This specimen is from the collection
of Tony Nikischer!!! We just acquired the 6000+ specimen PERSONAL collection
of Tony Nikischer and there are going to be some very exciting minerals to come in the upcoming days and weeks!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
STAY TUNED!!! MORE AUCTIONS WILL BE ADDED MONDAY NIGHT FOR A SPECIAL 3-DAY AUCTION, ENDING THURSDAY JANUARY 31st!!!
