Witherite with Sphalerite & Fluorite

Minerva No. 1 Mine, Cave-in-Rock, Hardin Co., Illinois

5.8cm x 3.83cm x 3.27cm

Ex. Larry Krause Collection

Description/Interesting Notes:

A classic example of witherite from this famous locality!!! This specimen consists of a complex, scepter-like crystal of witherite in association with sphalerite and fluorite!!! The witherite is completely terminated with glassy luster and marked translucence!!! The crystal stands up straight on a small portion of matrix and shows lustrous faces all around!!! There is a single crystal of darkly colored sphalerite perched on one side and there is a complex fluorite crystal partially included within the witherite itself!!! Upon close inspection one can see that the fluorite has marked clarity and some included chalcopyrite crystals within!!! This specimen is from the collection of Larry Krause!!! The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!! Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
