Wurtzite
Leonard Mine, Butte, Butte District, Silver Bow Co., Montana
2.46cm x 1.8cm x .95cm
Ex. Robert E. Jenkins II Collection No. 9354
Description/Interesting Notes:
A rare example of wurtzite from Butte!!! This specimen consists of a network of criss-crossing plates of wurtzite crystals!!! Upon
close examination with a loupe or scope one can see that these "plates" are made up of intergrown individual crystals!!! I am not certain
whether or not these Butte wurtzite crystals are pseudomorphic or formed as epimorphs of on another since-dissolved species but they are certainly
unique and quite fascinating under close inspection!!! This specimen is from the collection of well known Butte collector and scholar Bob Jenkins and
retains his original personal collection label!!!
The pics hardly do it justice!!! Must be seen in person to be fully appreciated!!!
Good luck and be sure to check out my other exciting mineral auctions on ebay!!!
